Palm Jumeirah is one of three man-made islands off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Property developer Nakheel Properties is responsible for the construction of the palm tree-shaped islands: Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, and Palm Deira. Each island will be home to residential, commercial, medical, and educational facilities.

Palm Jumeirah was created to resemble a palm tree. An aerial view shows the shape of the island with a trunk, 17 fronds, and an 11km crescent-shaped island above the fronds that serves as a breakwater. The breakwater island is connected to the top of the palm tree island by an underwater tunnel. A 300-meter bridge connects the island to the mainland. Construction plans for Palm Jumeirah include 30 beachfront hotels, restaurants and cafes, shopping outlets, and residential buildings.
