Dubai Marina Guide

The Dubai Marina, located in the heart of New Dubai near Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road, is destined to be the world's largest man-made marina. The design of the Dubai Marina was inspired by the famous Concord Pacific Place project in Vancouver, B.C., and executed by the real estate firm Emaar Properties of the UAE.

The Dubai Marina project, which covers an area of 53 million square feet, began in 1998, with the carving out of a 3.34km section of shoreline. Phase One of the project saw the completion of six apartment towers on the waterfront, called the Dubai Marina Towers, as well as 64 luxury villas flowing around the towers and connected by rooftop gardens. The second phase of the project involves the building of more than 200 high rises, including some skyscrapers. When finished, the Dubai Marina will be a world-class Venetian-style canal city that will house more than 120 thousand people.

The shopping and entertainment center of the Dubai Marina is the Dubai Marina Mall. Designed to maximize its waterfront location, the Dubai Marina Mall features a promenade and circular atrium. The wide range of stores include high-end brands, while a kids entertainment area keeps kids busy while their parents shop. The Gourmet Tower provides visitors with world-class gourmet fare. More casual al fresco meals can be found in the many cafes and restaurants along the Promenade.

For shopping for everyday foods, both Middle-eastern and Western, the locally-owned Spinney's Supermarket is conveniently situated on Marina Walk.

Dubai Marina Location

Just 20 kms from the Dubai Marina is the Emirates Golf Club, also known as 'The Desert Miracle' Built in 1988, the Emirates Golf Club is the first all-grass championship course in the Gulf region. Considered one of the top 100 gold courses in the world, the Emirates Golf Club provides golfers with unique and challenging experiences.

Also nearby is Aquaventure, a water park spanning 42 acres set at the ocean's edge that is filled with slides, rides, rapids and waves. The centerpiece of Aquaventure is the Ziggurat, a Mesopotamian-styled pyramid where visitors can shoot down a nearly 100-foot high, almost-vertical slide into a shark-infested lagoon. Visitors wanting a more serene experience can swim with the dolphins in Dolphin Bay.

More wild water adventures can be found at Wild Wadi Water Park, just 8.36 km from Dubai Marina. Here, multiple water slides and surfing with the aid of artificial surfing machines are huge attractions, as is the 18 meter waterfall.

The school that is closest to Dubai Marina is the Tender Love & Care school, a private school with the goal of enhancing cognitive, social, emotional and physical growth in each student. The nearest medical facility is the Welcare Ambulatory Care Center, which offers full-service medical care. For dental needs, the Top Modern Dental Clinic provides state-of-the-art dentistry.

The Dubai Marina is on the Red Line of the Dubai Metro, providing world-class driverless railway transportation to all major areas of Dubai and its suburbs.
